Power or Strength: This is power/strength either in the physical
form or in social
standing. Power or strength in either of these
two measures separates individuals from the masses. Hercules
would be an example of physical just as the President of a
country would be an example of strength in a social standing.
Power/strength is another very powerful motivator.
Wisdom: Wisdom is having the knowledge to make smart
choices. It is
both intelligence and knowledge. Many students
study solely to learn for the sake of learning and to amass a
wealth of knowledge for themselves.
Honor: Motivation comes from honor when it is the belief
that action is done for self and pride, not monetary reward.
Motivation can also come out of the sheer belief that is it
honorable to do so.
From the above central themes determine for yourself if any of them
relate to you. Do any of these motivate you?
Finding your motivation
Everyone is motivated differently. It is what makes us different that
also causes us to be motivated differently. Although our own
motivations are unique to ourselves, we all can be motivated by our
goals. It is this process of self discovery where you will be able to find
your own motivation.
Setting goals for life
The best way to motivate yourself is to follow your dreams. Your
dreams and aspirations should become your goals, no matter how
distant or impossible they may seem.
When you begin to set goals for yourself, you also begin to awaken
the motivation inside you. It is this motivation that will be your burning
flame that will help you reach your goals.
Your life goals may not be the same as your study goals which is fine.
Many students academic lives and actual lives differ. It is the process
of determining your life goals before you set your study goals.
