There are various factors that contribute to the stress we deal with
everyday. Some of these factors are controllable, others are not. The
stress risk factors that we can control are:
Personality type
Mental disposition
Diet
Exercise
Smoking
Alcohol and drug abuse
These are called your controllable risk factors. By examining the
sources of stress in your life, you will be able to reduce your own stress
level through these controllable risk factors.
Accounting for your own stress:
Life is full of stress. Moving home, death, separation, employment and
immigration are some of the most stressful events that can take place
in a persons life. Some of these risk factors are unavoidable, others
are not and at some point we all have to go through it. It isnt the
event its self, but how we handle and control the stress that is
important.
Below is a list of physical and psychological stress risk factors. Some of
these cannot be controlled and will have to be accepted, while
others can be controlled.
The real threat of stress comes in the combination of these risks factors.
One or two of them individually may not have a dramatic affect, but
the combined effect and can be devastating.
