have included a 6 step study preparation technique. This technique
should be used every time before you study.
6 Step Preparation Technique
Before you start your studying, use this 6 step preparation technique.
1. Sit comfortably on your chair with your feet flat on the floor and
hands resting on your lap.
2. Play a selection of Baroque music while performing one of the deep
breathing exercises. If you do not have any Baroque music available,
sit in silence.
3. Close your eyes and go through the muscle relaxation exercise.
4. Open your eyes and continue with 10 natural breaths.
5. Quickly write or speak the key points relating to the subject that
you are preparing to study (this will focus you on the material you are
about to study).
6. Close your eyes again and visualize what you plan to learn during
this study session. Visualize writing the exam and referencing the
material you are about to study to the exam. Visualize the exam room,
writing the exam and completing the exam. Imagine a sense of
comfort, confidence and excellence.
Repeat the above steps until you are ready to begin your study
session.
Using the techniques in this chapter alone, you will be able to improve
your efforts up to 400%. By combining the benefits of an appropriate
study environment and being mentally prepared, you will be able to
focus and get down to the business of studying.
Professional athletics devote a lot of time to mental and physical
preparation. They will stretch and loosen their muscles before their
activity. During tournaments and competitions professional athletics
will mentally psyche themselves up for the game. The same
techniques that are used by the worlds best athletes can also be
adapted to your preparation for studying.
Prepare yourself for the world, as the athletes used to do for their
exercise; oil your mind and your manners, to give them the necessary
suppleness and flexibility; strength alone will not do.
