your study session. You will want to create the best state of mind for
learning. To do this you will need a quite, comfortable, study
environment and you must also feel relaxed, alert, focused and in the
alpha state of mind.
Preparing your study environment
The first step is ensuring that your place of study is adequate for your
needs. The environment in which you study has a direct impact on
your study performance and you will need to ensure that they are
right for you. Here are some questions that you should ask yourself:
           Study Environment Questions
Are you too hot or cold? If you find yourself too hot, chances are
you feel tired and if you are too cold and too busy shivering, your
attention isn’t directed at your studies
Are you disrupted by noise? Noise has a detrimental impact on your
ability to concentrate. Street noise, Television, music, and other white
noise divert your attention from your studies. Consider changing your
study place to somewhere that is quiet.
Is there sufficient light? Lack of sufficient light or proper light
both detract from your ability to study and adds strain on the eyes.
Add additional light if you find you are straining your eyes. The type
of light also affects your ability to concentrate. Daylight and daylight
spectrum lights offer the best choice of light sources.
Is there adequate ventilation? The lack of good clean air limits our
body’s ability to function. Ensure that you are getting enough fresh
oxygenated air into your study environment.
Is your table & chair at the correct height? Ergonomics, or the
design factors used to minimize fatigue and discomfort, are very
important by allowing greater study sessions without fatigue or
discomfort.
Are you wearing comfortable & nonrestrictive clothing? The body
and mind work together and the more relaxed and comfortable
the
body, the more relaxed and comfortable is the mind.
Is your work area free from clutter? Perception is very important.
If your study area is cluttered, you are less likely to maintain clarity
of thought. If you work on many projects at the same place, try
separating each to allow yourself a cleaner, clearer workplace for
each project.
By failing to prepare,
you are preparing to
fail.
