Immediate goals or tasks: A to-do list should also be called a
daily ‘cross-off’ list because the goals or tasks on the to-do list
should be completed within less than one day.
2.
Tasks must be specific, verifiable, and quantifiable: There
must be a point when you know when you are done and the task
can be crosses off. Make sure this is known before you include it
on your to-do list.
3.
Tasks must be prioritized: The most important items should be
done first, according to a priority. All the items must be
prioritized.
4.
Reward based: We all love rewards, especially when they are
earned. Be sure to include some form of reward whenever the list
has been completed.
Motivating your study goals
Sometimes motivation just seems to be lacking during studying. We
have included some interesting techniques to help you keep your
motivation going strong until the final exam.
Penny Jar: Some academic courses run a full academic year
and keeping your motivation up for the entire period may seem
daunting. Try using a penny jar to keep you motivated. For
every hour that you study decide on an amount to put into the
jar. Whether it is 10 cents, 25 cents or a dollar, make sure you
stick to your original amount. As your studying progresses, so will
the size of the money jar. This is a good example of your
education paying you back. Make sure you know what you
are going to do with the money when you are finished. Maybe
taking that long holiday or a weekend get away is the reward
you are looking for.
Study Plant: Knowledge has been referred to as a seedling in a
garden of information. There is no better way to illustrate this
than actually growing your own plant. If you find that you have
a green thumb and study in a well lit room, this is a motivational
technique for you. When you begin the academic year, plant
your seedling. Every time you sit down to study, water the plant.
Make sure that you only water the plant after you have put in a
study session. This way you are responsible for the plants growth
just as you are responsible for your own knowledge growth.
